Creating safe environments in homes, schools and communities to build the agency and resilience of Children & Young people in Kanamai, Mtwapa Kilifi, Kenya, 2024
The project being implemented by the Kilifi PVAC cluster composed of KAACR, Social Community Development (SCD) and CLEK sin partnership with CRVPF aims at addressing violence and sexual violence, against children and young people in Kanamai, Kilifi PVAC cluster has been implementing a one-year project focused on preventing such violence.
Before this initiative, Kanamai was a hotspot for various forms of violence against children, as highlighted by situational analyses and baseline surveys, which demonstrated a need for preventive measures rather than just responsive actions. The objectives of the project are: –
- Strengthened Safe School Environments that enable children’s enrolment, retention and transition from primary to secondary levels of education
- Well established separate platforms for out of school young boys and girls as platforms for sharing experience and learning to strengthen resilience and mitigate factors that expose them to violence.
- Strengthened Parenting Skills and Practices as well as improved Spousal Relationships that enable nurturing and growth of children and young people.
- Strengthened Household Income to mitigate financially driven violence against children and adolescents.
- Well-coordinated community structures that plan, design, implement and monitor interventions that focus on prevention violence against children and young people.
