SHE LEADS PROJECT 2021-2025
KAACR is part of the She Leads is a joint initiative of Plan International Netherlands, Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Defence for Children – ECPAT Netherlands, and The African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET), and in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands under the Power of Voices Framework for the period 2021-2025, and Equal Measures 2030 as a technical partner. The She Leads alliance organisations in Kenya {Plan International Kenya, Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Defence for Children -ECPAT Netherlands (represented by KAACR), and The African Women’s Development and Communication Network}; together with their implementing partners (African Gender and Media Initiative (GEM), the Network for Adolescent and Youth of Africa (NAYA), Pamoja CBO and Polycom Development Project) will implement the program in Kajiado, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Homabay and Kisumu Counties, with a national focus. The strategic objective of the program is to increase sustained influence of girls and young women on decision-making and the transformation of gender norms in formal and informal institutions.
Strengthening Communities to Respond to Effects of Climate Change as a measure to curb Child Labour (SCRECCCL) 2024 - 2026
The project being implemented by the Children at Risk (CaR) Coalition i.e. KAACR, African Divine Church and Pillars Care Foundation in partnership with Kerk in Actie (KiA)addresses effects of climate change to the community and support children involved in or at risk of child labor, with specific focus on child domestic work, their families and communities to effectively adopt alternative ways of life that promote understanding on climate change and child protection. The main goal of the project is to undertake follow-ups and build up programs informed by previous interventions that aims to compliment government efforts towards withdrawal and prevention of all children and youth engaged in child labor and in worst form of child labour and other forms of abuse back to education in Western Kenya by 2030.
The objectives of the project are to: -
1. Rescued children from CDW are influential actors amongst their peers in family and community.
2. Withdrawn children from CDW have strong and healthy, equitably protect, respect and nurture all children and youth
Positively influence religious organizations and communities to keep children and youth out of child.
3. To provide safe and just environment that nurture, value and protect children withdrawn from CDW
4. To provide justice, protective and social support mechanism to CDW survivors; support services are effective and accessible to all laws and policies
Youth’s Experience of Peer-to-Peer Sexual Violence Online, Social Norms and Youth-Led Recommendations for Prevention and Response: A Cross-Regional Study 2023 - 2025
KAACR in partnership with Royal Roads University (RRU) and Terre des Hommes (TdH) Albania are conducting a study on Youth’s Experience of Peer-to-Peer Sexual Violence Online. This is a carefully collated research partnership has been drawn together for this particular project. This project is led by a research university in Canada (Royal Roads University (RRU)) known for community-based and action research. The partners include three leading child-and-youth-focused not-for-profit partners (the International Institute for Child Rights and Development (IICRD), Terre des hommes Foundation Albania (Tdh), and the Kenya Alliance for the Advancement of Children (KAACR). The team has context and methodological expertise, as well as demonstrated passion and experience in working with children and youth, participatory and action-based research, CSEA, and a growing expertise in online safety. The partners bring an understanding and a network within the three countries where the research will take place, Canada, Albania and Kenya. Collectively and individually, the team has a demonstrated record of effective creative knowledge mobilisation across different audiences (public, professional and academic).
Creating safe environments in homes, schools and communities to build the agency and resilience of Children & Young people in Kanamai, Mtwapa Kilifi, Kenya, 2024
The project being implemented by the Kilifi PVAC cluster composed of KAACR, Social Community Development (SCD) and CLEK sin partnership with CRVPF aims at addressing violence and sexual violence, against children and young people in Kanamai, Kilifi PVAC cluster has been implementing a one-year project focused on preventing such violence. Before this initiative, Kanamai was a hotspot for various forms of violence against children, as highlighted by situational analyses and baseline surveys, which demonstrated a need for preventive measures rather than just responsive actions. The objectives of the project are: - Strengthened Safe School Environments that enable children’s enrolment, retention and transition from primary to secondary levels of education Well established separate platforms for out of school young boys and girls as platforms for sharing experience and learning to strengthen resilience and mitigate factors that expose them to violence. Strengthened Parenting Skills and Practices as well as improved Spousal Relationships that enable nurturing and growth of children and young people. Strengthened Household Income to mitigate financially driven violence against children and adolescents. Well-coordinated community structures that plan, design, implement and monitor interventions that focus on prevention violence against children and young people.
CAPSA PROJECT,
2024
KAACR in partnership with ILO is carrying of a project on Strengthening Capacity of Governments to Address Child Labor and/or Forced Labor, and Violations of Acceptable Conditions of Work in Sub Saharan Africa (CAPSA). KAACR is implementing the project in Kwale county amongst other five counties in Kenya. The project CAPSA trickled to Mombasa County through a request from the Mombasa County Assembly child labour committee which requested ILO and KAACR to train them on the existing child labour policies globally and nationally.
Project Jacaranda, 2024
The project goal is to strengthen the capacity of Law Enforcement Agencies in Kenya to effectively respond to incidents of TFVAC. The project entails collaborating with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies – police, prosecution and judiciary and related training colleges/institutes, community leaders, caregivers, and children themselves, to address the multifaceted challenges posed by TFVAC in target Counties. This includes: Capacity Enhancement Training Programs, Institutional Integration, Community Engagement and Engagement with Children.
